Yachtmaster Ocean. Qualifying passage
The qualifying criteria to be covered, as laid down by the
RYA is as follows: A minimum non-stop passage of 600 miles must have been
run by the log, the yacht must have been at sea continuously for at least
96 hours and the yacht must have been more than 50 miles from land while sailing
a distance of at least 200 miles.
Performance Yachting no longer provide Ocean qualifying passages, however
we have teamed up with Velvet adventure Sailing and we can
arrange a passage for you on their Oyster 55 superbly equipped for ocean passage
making.

Oral examination
The examination is an oral test.
You will need to provide the examiner with a narrative account of the planning
and execution of the qualifying passage, you may be required to answer questions
on all aspects ocean passage making in a yacht, including meteorology. You
will have to show your navigational records of your passage to show that the
yacht has been navigated without the use of electronic navigational aids.
This will include sights and workings taken on sun, moon , star or planet
and a compass check.
